Lean Healthcare 2-day Overview

Course Description
This two day course is designed to give medical professionals an introduction to the most important lean concepts and practices used to address problems in a wide variety of healthcare environments. The course incorporates the UK Lean Systems Group’s proven instructional method using a “train and do” approach to enhance the learning experience. Unlike many courses whose focus is on content quantity, this UK Lean Healthcare course focuses on the most fundamental principles and practices required to develop a sustainable quality healthcare system. Each principle is demonstrated using hands-on activities to provide attendees a foundation upon which to build greater proficiencies through the UK Lean System Group’s world renowned Lean Certification program. These principles are meant to engage providers and staff in activities to reduce variation throughout the system by focusing on achieving stable processes which can be standardized to distinguish between normal and abnormal activities.

A key activity for low cost, high quality healthcare is to create the ability to visualize current conditions, and identify and eliminate problems. An effective, uniform problem solving methodology is introduced as a means of eliminating abnormal conditions as well as reducing variation within normal activities.

Simulations are specifically designed to illustrate the concepts of waste elimination, pull and flow, 5S, visual management and standard work in a non-threatening environment.  In addition, Toyota’s 8-step problem solving method is introduced and demonstrated using information collected by participants during simulation activities. This course is intended for physicians, hospitalists, nurses, department leads, supervisors, administrators and managers.
