Many books and courses have been developed in describing Toyota’s well known Kanban system. This simple technique has been the cornerstone of Toyota’s Production System in controlling operations, reducing scheduling complexity and identifying the various inefficiencies associated in tradition production systems. Interestingly, Toyota is not applying the same techniques it once developed some 40 years. Like many outsiders who study Toyota at some fixed point in time, TPS is dynamic system that continues to evolve.

The University of Kentucky’s Lean Systems Group is offering an advance 2-day course in evaluating and applying Toyota’s complete Kanban techniques. This training activity is a practical, hands-on approach in implementing and developing effective Kanban systems. This training is unique compared to other courses on the topic, because few practitioners are aware or have knowledge of the various permutations and combinations that is available in applying Kanban theory. Unfortunately, applying the wrong type of Kanban system can be more dangerous than helpful in establishing a stable system. Participants will learn Toyota’s most up to date techniques and knacks that go beyond the basic fundamentals of pull systems. Participants can also expect to learn how to analysis production or service systems in determining the right type and size of buffers and optimal line configurations.

Other Topics Include:

  • Kanban theory and pull systems
  • Kanban types
  • Production system theory
  • Application and implementation techniques of Kanban systems
  • Kanban metrics and their monitoring
  • The role of management in Kanban systems
  • Lean transformation concepts and their relation to Kanban
