Ensuring equipment availability in a Just-In-Time environment is one of the most critical features in a lean production system. Unfortunately, most companies do not utilize maintenance resources effectively and as a result have difficulty controlling operational cost and balancing work demands. An approach that has been successful in developing and sustaining efficient maintenance work practices is called Lean Maintenance. Lean Maintenance is a set of techniques and practices developed by Toyota using philosophies based on the Toyota Production System (TPS). This 2-day course benchmarks Toyota’s core maintenance functions in planned and unplanned maintenance, performance tracking, problem solving and standardization activities. Learn how Toyota designs and develop systems that prevent common problems from occurring in maintenance.
The course will review Toyota’s practices on skilled trade development and the necessity of multi-skilled labor. The program will also evaluate many of the common lean tools that used in the maintenance area and discuss ways to implement them effectively. Participants will understand the interactions of various supporting work groups and the level of integration that is required to sustain maintenance activities and functions. The course will also evaluate Toyota’s unique organizational structure within the maintenance group and define key roles that are vital in maintaining normal work flow. Lastly, the course will provide a strategy and a plan on paper to help guide participants in the transformation process to Lean Maintenance.
Other Topics Include:
*This course will not include the advance technical maintenance group responsibilities that are used for commissioning and decommissioning of equipment (i.e. design reviews, technologies of the equipment, etc…).
