Many books and courses have covered how to apply kaizen in the office environment. Most approaches provide many good example of how the tools of TPS can be applied to administrative environments that conduct work in transactions or customer service in the public and private industry. Unfortunately, most practitioners fail to go beyond the implementation of tools or techniques of TPS. Often, kaizen starts with short burst of activities that relate to the urgent aspects of the business yet do not become integrated or a part of office world in meeting the company’s mid to long term goals and targets. In most cases, lean implementation stops once the tools have been implemented or it is acknowledged or believed that the principles of lean simply do not work in the office.

The University of Kentucky Lean Systems Group is offering a 2-day course to teach the fundamentals of kazien for the office environment. Participants will be exposed to the tools of lean that are used in industrial engineering but more importantly learn how to translate and integrate these principles into the office world. Participants will be expected to develop skills to justify the selection and integration of techniques as it relates to achieving company’s goals and targets. Students will learn how to maintain kaizen activities and promote their development by standardizing the role of kazien for managers in the office. Participants can expect to learn how to apply Toyota’s problem solving process in raising operational standards and the development of countermeasures that are effective at keeping problems from returning. This course will provide participants an inside understanding of how Toyota teaches kaizen in the office that is effective for getting results but also how to develop methods that are repeatable.

The University of Kentucky Lean Systems Group is offering a 2-day course designed to teach the fundamentals of Jishuken. This course will provide participants the techniques to implement management directed kaizen activities and how to engage management in focusing on broad based / system related problems. Participants will learn how to avoid common problems in Jishukens and realign their efforts in meeting company-wide goals and targets. Students will be expected to learn Toyota’s hands-on techniques that are transferable to a wide range of management functions both in the office and on the floor. Overall, participants will learn how management directed kaizen can be used as a technique in improving how managers learn, apply and support problem solving throughout the organization.
