Most who implement lean rarely think of it as organizational change. Too often, lean is implemented without understanding how management will support lean or leadership’s role in articulating the new vision. Interestingly, most who implement lean rarely generate a plan or strategy on paper, yet are expected to drive organizational change.
Toyota’s annual planning process (also known as Hoshin Kanri) is a specific methodology used for aligning goals and targets within the organization. It is how Toyota injects “problem solving energy” into the company that is needed to drive change. Hoshin Kanri, is one approach that Toyota uses in strengthening TPS throughout the organization by maintaining a clear line of sight vertically through out the organization and by encouraging teamwork and cooperation.
The Lean Systems Group is offering a 2-day Hoshin Kanri course that will teach the basic fundamentals of annual planning using Toyotas techniques and methods. Learn how Toyota uses leadership in articulating goals and targets that are crucial in developing methods that achieve results. In this course, participants will learn how to track and monitor operations by establishing metrics that are understandable and usable throughout the organization. Lastly, participants will be expected to start a draft of an initial strategy and plan on paper using Hoshin Kanri techniques.
